My Story

Hi! I'm Carrissa, a Filipino Lifestyle Medicine Physician and Health and Wellness Coach in training. I just really want to help more people, especially fellow Filipinos, to gain insight into how to improve their health, achieve their health goals, and make sure that it lasts a lifetime.

I've had my fair share of health challenges. My stressful lifestyle, family history, and racial disposition as a Filipino predispose me to certain diseases and cancers.

I struggled with challenges in weight loss, resulting in an eating disorder in my adolescent years. This was an ongoing struggle until my adulthood, which contributed to our difficulty in conceiving. Applying all the lessons from my training to my personal life was key to overcoming both challenges.

I recognize health as a product of so many social determinants, however with the right education and guidance our health goals may be met.

My experience taught me that information alone and self-reliance is not enough for me to get the results I wanted. I resorted to minimizing my calorie intake, so I had to eat less meaning 1/2 of rice and the same amount of "ulam" or dish and distracted myself from hunger with other activities and ran for 30 minutes to 1 hour 3-5 times a week whilst I slept only for 4-5 hours a night as I was in med school. Once I got the results I wanted I eventually gained back the weight. I tried the same solution, but this time it was ineffective. I ended up gaining much more weight. This became worse when I got married and had difficulty conceiving.

There is just too much information available on the internet and my training in lifestyle medicine helped me know how to funnel down and utilize Evidence-Based Information and apply the practices in my own life. This opened me up to the world of wellness coaching and how behavior change as I have applied with my patients can produce the results they want as they integrate these new healthy behaviors into their everyday lives.

Lifestyle medicine was the solution for me to live the life I dream of. I am now a mother of two and I look forward to fulfilling more dreams and aspirations most especially in terms of health.

This has been my drive and motivation to help patients and clients achieve health and wellness throughout their lives.
